Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 12, 2026
This is my personal portfolio. It has no accounts to sign up for, no shopping cart, no advertising, and no newsletter. I do not sell or rent your data, and the site sets no tracking cookies on your device. This page explains the little data the site does touch, and why.
Who is responsible
This website (ericgabrielalong.com) is operated by Eric Gabriel Along, an individual based in the Philippines. For any privacy question or to exercise the rights described below, contact me at ericgabrielalong@gmail.com. As a personal site I have not appointed a Data Protection Officer; I handle these requests myself.
What the site collects, and why
Information you choose to give me
The only way to send me personal information is to email me — for example through an “Email me” or “Let's talk” link. If you do, I receive your email address and whatever you write. I use it only to read and reply, and I keep the correspondence only as long as needed for that conversation. There are no contact forms or fields that submit data to the site.
Technical data from serving the site
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel automatically processes basic request data — your IP address, browser type (user-agent), the pages requested, and timestamps — to deliver pages and keep the service secure and reliable. This is standard server-log activity carried out on the basis of a legitimate interest in running the site, and is governed by Vercel's privacy policy.
Cookieless analytics
I use Vercel Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages are visited and how the site performs. It is privacy-friendly by design: it sets no cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build an advertising profile. It counts visits using anonymized signals rather than storing data that identifies you personally.
Cookies
The public site uses no cookies and no local storage for visitors. The single cookie the codebase can set (sb_session) is a strictly-necessary sign-in cookie for my own private content-editing area, and is only ever issued to me after I log in. As an ordinary visitor, you will not receive it.
The GitHub activity heatmap
My About page shows a heatmap of my own public GitHub activity. That data is fetched by this site's own server and passed to your browser as a simple grid of dates and counts — your visit is not reported to GitHub, and no access credential ever reaches your browser.
Embedded media (occasional)
An article may, on rare occasions, embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo. When an article does, your browser contacts that provider to load the player, and the provider may collect data under its own policy. YouTube embeds use its privacy-enhanced “no-cookie” mode. If an article has no embedded video, no such third party is contacted.
Links to other services
Some pages link out to other sites (for example my LinkedIn, or AI assistants like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude on the Gamify Learning page). Once you follow such a link you are on that third party's site, under its own privacy policy. Note that the Gamify Learning prompt is copied to your clipboard entirely within your browser — this site does not send anything to any AI service; what you do with the prompt afterward is between you and that service.
Fonts
The site's fonts are self-hosted from this domain. Unlike sites that load fonts from Google's font CDN, loading a page here sends no request — and no IP address — to Google for fonts.
Who the data is shared with
I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data, and I use no advertising networks. The only parties that process visitor data are my hosting and analytics provider, Vercel, and — only when an article embeds a video — the relevant video provider. Because Vercel and these providers operate globally, the limited technical data above may be processed on servers outside the Philippines, including in the United States and the European Union.
Your rights
Because the site stores no personal records about ordinary visitors, in most cases there is little or nothing for me to retrieve or delete beyond correspondence you have sent me. Where rights do apply, you can exercise them by emailing ericgabrielalong@gmail.com.
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173), you have the rights to be informed, to access, to object, to rectify, to erasure or blocking, to data portability, and to be indemnified for damages. You may also lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR also gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability, and the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. The lawful bases I rely on are your consent (when you email me) and legitimate interests (serving the site securely and understanding aggregate usage).
If you are a California resident, you have the rights to know, delete, and correct personal information and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” — though I do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined — and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Children
This site is a professional portfolio intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.
Security
The site is served exclusively over encrypted HTTPS, and it is built around data minimization — the strongest privacy protection is simply not collecting data in the first place, which is the approach taken here.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, I will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and significant changes will be reflected in the text here. There is no mailing list, so no notifications are sent.
